O’Donovan’s Off Licence – Douglas Branch
A landmark shop in Douglas, O'Donovan’s Off Licence has traded for several decades in Douglas village. It is a go to destination for visitors and locals alike. The shop stocks an eclectic array of wines, craft beers and spirits, and specialises in whiskey.
A lot of our wines do not appear on the shelves of supermarkets operating in the locale. This gives our customers a chance to experience exclusive wines under the guidance of our expert team. We are also noted for our wide range of craft beers which we enjoy ourselves, so you can appreciate that all our products have been tasted and come highly recommended by our team!
We pride ourselves on our stock of both Irish and International whiskeys. Through our many trade connections, we endeavour to keep our customers informed, supplied and up to date on all developments in the world of whiskey.
Irish whiskey sales abroad are growing at a huge rate and winning many international awards with Jameson being the leading brand. Several new independent distilleries are in the course of completion, including Tullamore, Dingle, Walshes, Union Hall and Teelings to mention just a few.
Whiskey has become the drink of choice of the discerning consumer and indeed the collector. We provide expert advice on all aspects of Irish whiskey in our Douglas shop, including tasting notes and food matching. I am a founding member of the Irish Whiskey Society and I’ve recently set up a Cork chapter. People are most welcome to come in and discuss upcoming tastings and membership.
Of course, in the current climate life is not easy and this has not been helped with the high excise duty on alcohol. It should be noted that seventy percent of the price of a €20 bottle of whiskey is tax. It would certainly help us if the government were to ease up on these high rates of duty, to allow us to deliver a better price point to our local customers. Feel free to drop into us in Douglas to discuss all things whiskey and otherwise.
