O’Donovan’s Off Licence – Oliver Plunkett Street Branch
O'Donovan's Off Licence Oliver Plunkett Street branch has been trading in Cork city centre since the 1980's and moved to its current location in 2002. We have a wide customer base ranging from students to local business people. We stock a wide selection of premium spirits, craft beers and wines from all over the world.
We strive to meet our customers’ needs and offer a wide selection of competitive special offers which are updated regularly. We pride ourselves in providing top level customer service which we achieve through on going staff training such as WSET wine courses at all levels.
The consumption and trends of the Irish wine drinker has changed dramatically over the past 25 years, with a definite shift towards New World Wines. Australia and Chile remain the main players, although the emergence of new varieties such as Malbec from Argentina, have helped the growth in sales from other New World countries. The uniqueness of New Zealand sauvignon blanc has also pushed this relatively small producing country to the forefront.
Although all of these changes might seem exciting and dynamic, the increases in VAT and duty on alcohol products has put the industry, especially independent off licences, under severe pressure. We would urge the government to reduce these high levels of duty which would help us firstly to survive and later to grow and develop in these ever changing times.
