DIGI published its International comparisons of Irish alcohol excise taxation in the European Union in 2019 report today.

The report, supported with research and analysis by DCU economist Anthony Foley and research conducted among Irish consumers and the DIGI membership, shows that this country remains in the unenviable position of having some of the EU’s highest excise tax rates on alcohol.

The drinks and hospitality industry is an essential part of the Irish economy. Drinks and hospitality businesses employ 7.6% of all Irish workers in 175,000 jobs. Let your local representative know how important the industry is by supporting a reduction in excise tax.
