DIGI published its National and Regional Employment in the Drinks and Hospitality Sector in 2019 report today.

This report, supported with research and analysis by DCU economist Anthony Foley and research conducted among Irish consumers and the DIGI membership, highlights the positive contributions of the drinks and hospitality sector to Ireland’s economy and society, as well as the challenges it faces and the obstacles in the way of growth.

The drinks and hospitality industry is an essential part of the Irish economy. Drinks and hospitality businesses employ 7.6% of all Irish workers in 175,000 jobs. Let your local representative know how important the industry is by supporting a reduction in excise tax.

For example, Ireland’s excise tax on a pint of beer is currently 1,000% higher than in Germany despite the fact that consumption levels in Ireland and Germany are nearly identical, according to WHO figures.
